Music As Food For The Mind And Body

Have you ever thought that music is a positive contributor in the development of your body and mind? There are three ways you can use music to accomplish this.

Motivation Provider

When you are physically active while listening to bouncy music, your movement is more natural and spontaneous. Using music to motivate yourself or change your mood is an area where you can trust your experience and experimentation. So when the occasion occurs just play the music that will lull you to sleep, or invigorate you, or raise your spirit.

Music Can Make You Smarter

The right kind of music can spur your brain to higher levels of imagination and ingenuity. Studies show that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. A group of three year old kids in two groups were placed in different situations during an experiment. One group was not allowed to experience nor given music training. The second group was made to study piano and singing.

Eight months later the musical three-year-olds were much better at solving puzzles. In the spatial intelligence tests, the second group was even more spectacular, scoring 80% higher than the first group. It is also believed that classical music conditions makes the brain more receptive during study sessions.

This claim should be the subject of thorough study. For the individual, there will be no harm if he is to make his own observations. The author Stephen King is known to write books with rock music background, proof that music does play a role in an individuals psychological makeup.

Music as a Brainwave Catalyst

Want to listen to some music, and get smarter, or have instant easy meditation? A method of lulling yourself into a meditative state is listening to music rigged to entrain your brainwaves. Music is embedded with beats and pulses that entrain your brain waves to a specific frequency. All you need to do to be in a particular frame of mind is to play the right kind of music. Science? Partly.

Specific mental states can exist or occur in specific brain wave frequencies. Daydreaming and light meditation take place in the "Alpha" range of frequencies, for example. In theory, music beating at 10Hz will produce more brainwaves also at 10Hz frequency thus conditioning the mind to fall into a relaxing Alpha state. Has this been proven?

It is a proven fact that music and yoga or other meditative disciplines are two of the more effective tools or vehicle of attaining an inner peace and calm and contentment. Studies will prove the effects (some have already), and disprove the wilder claims.

You cannot be faulted if you have reservations until more proof comes around to erase your doubts. At the same time, why not have a good time listening to music when studying and taking notice of its effect on you? Experiment with music - Mozart isn't dangerous.
